While doing my research for assignment 2, I found a source that should really be shared. The source is from Business Insider and it includes the projections for the cost of secondary education for the year 2030, while following inflation trends. This source reports that if college prices increase by 5% each year, by 2030 the cost of college tuition will have doubled! Additional topics covered in this source include the projected costs of both public and private universities by the year 2030. More topics include future four-year college costs and tuition inflation verses other expenses through the cumulative percent price change since 1983.
The main argument of this source is very similar to my main argument for this whole project. The source argues that college tuition is too expensive and if it keeps rising following inflation trends, the cost of college in the near future will be utterly unaffordable for the majority of the population. This source is extremely useful to me because it shows how this problem will continue to affect future generations and in such a big way. This is one of the most important sources in my bibliography because it gives a projection of rising tuition rates; an aspect of secondary education that is already forcing students to struggle financially.
I think it’s important to look towards the future of tuition prices because many of us will be involved with universities or will have children to help support in paying for it. I know that I do not want to pay $185,000 for my child to attend a 4-year public university. Let’s not forget that this would be the price PER YEAR. I can’t even begin to fathom a bill arriving at my house for that much money.
